Article: Nursing Beyond One Year

This is a La Leche League article, with citations:

To those who can't wait until I wean Ari, I say there, now leave me alone!

She really is weaning herself, by the way. We are down to nursing four times a day and often she is nursing for a minute or so on each side. I am pretty certain that the before bed and morning feedings will be the last ones to go. Not sure which one will go first.

  1. The Boy was forcibly weaned due to chemo, at around 15 months. Little Bear weaned himself at around 17-18 months, mostly because pregnancy dried the tap.

I do agree with The Wife - babies should be allowed to wean themselves. There's always a reason that they want to breastfeed or don't want to breastfeed.

Besides, they get ripped away from Mum quickly enough...
