Replacing shampoo and conditioner with baking soda, water, and apple cider vinegar, anyone?

I just came across this:
http://simplemom.net/how-to-clean-your-hair-without-shampoo/

I will admit it: I am intrigued!

I will admit it: I will try this!

And, yes, if I like it and decide to move away from shampoo, you can feel free to say I am super crunchy!

Wow, it would be awesome to not spend a ton of money on shampoo! My hair is very special and super greasy, so I have tried many types of shampoo and the one working right now is pricy. I welcome new ideas and experiments!

I can't wait to read what my husband and my friend Yaminette will have to say about this! Come on, tell me I went off the deep end! Because I know I did!

I laugh at my crunchiness and I was not crunchy in the slightest before becoming a mother. Heck, being "crunchy" is one of those things I said I would never do/be. But, here I am, the reluctant crunchy mama! So be it...!

  1. My DH teases me because I was totally not crunchy before kids either...but, small steps at a time, I become more crunchy. I'm a very very slow work in progress...but as for the shampoo, I say go for it! For me, I spend very little a year on shampoo, so it's not a big deal for me, but for someone that has difficult hair and spends tons on the good stuff, if this works, you win in more than one way!!!!

  2. If you've been in a smokey room, I find there's little that clears it from your hair better than apple cider vinegar. And it makes your hair shiny. However, I think it's kind of smelly. (She claims it's not smelly...but I disagree.) You can also condition your hair with stuff like oatmeal.

  3. WOW! I had never thought of replacing shampoo and conditioner, but truth be told, I use anything I have, like a bar of soap...and you've seen my hair! hehehe
YOU have officially gone off the deep end now.
    Yeah 2010!

  4. We've been slowly getting rid of many cleaners and unnecessary chemicals around our house. Shampoo is on our list, too. So thanks for the link to that article. It was VERY informative and helpful. I've heard of others who don't use any type of cleaning agent and have no trouble at all with oils or smell. It was explained to me that they just use very, very hot water and then I imagine they shock it with a few seconds of cold water (which makes the hair softer). Maybe we could migrate to that after a few months of baking soda and vinegar.

We wash all of our diapers with vinegar and even use it for fabric softener and yet they never smell of vinegar. It evaporates quite well.

By the way, HAPPY NEW YEAR!
